  • A highly compelling French single-seater
  • Ideal for hill climbs and racing events

Presented here is a single-seater track and hill climb racer produced by Pierre Guérin, hailing from nearby Grenoble. Dubbed the Atelier Guérin Special, or AGS for short, at its heart is a two-cylinder, 850-cc Panhard engine with a single Zenith carburettor mated to a Panhard gearbox. The car is driven by its front wheels and boasts Panhard wheels, brakes and a front suspension with independent square torsion bar at the rear, and an aluminium body. While not much is known about the car’s history, it was purchased out of France at the end of 1990 from a Mr Allonso in Grenoble by Serge Macé, who owned it for the next 20 years.

Mr Allonso told Mr Macé that his father raced the car in the 1950s, but by the time of Mr Macé’s purchase, the car had fallen into disrepair and was in need of a rebuild. He fitted a new 850-cc Panhard engine and rebuilt the car to race it in the FFSA championship at various circuits around France. Macé sold the car to another gentleman in France who kept it for only a few months before it was acquired by Gianni Codiferro and imported to Italy where it was campaigned in a number of Italian hill climb events. The AGS was purchased from Codiferro by its current owner from the Netherlands, who was told that Mr Allonso’s father raced the car in the 1950s.

This is a car that begs to be returned to the track and hill climb circuit where the next owner will undoubtedly have a thrill behind the wheel.
